(Ecclesiastes 3, 1-8) |
George was the second of my grandmother's older brothers to die for his country in the First World War. Unlike his elder brother before him, George joined the 1st Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment. Along with his company George was sent to France where he was fatally wounded on Saturday 19th October, 1918, aged just 24. He was buried at St. Sever Cemetery Extension, near Rouen, reunited in Heaven with Sam.
His memory lives on thought my elder son, Benjamin George.
In dedicating himself to God, King and Country, George surrendered his future that we may have one. He was one of the War's unknown soldiers in the greater scheme of the conflict, but to his family he will be known forever.
The War Graves Commission tends his grave with respectful devotion, and we as a family are truly grateful for their dedication.
